Flood warnings remained in place today with forecasters predicting scattered rainfall throughout the South-East.
But experts said the threat of floods appeared to be receding since parts of the region were put on alert yesterday.
They included the River Adur from Burgess Hill to Henfield, the Arun from Pulborough to Arundel and the Ouse from Isfield to Barcombe.
A lower-level warning has been issued for the Ouse upstream from Lewes.
No flooding was reported overnight and experts were predicting the flood risk today would be lower than yesterday.
Scattered, heavy and fast-moving showers were expected to sweep across West Sussex this morning, breaking up later.
Forecasters were predicting 5mm to 10mm of rain to fall in West Sussex before noon with the same amount predicted to fall in East Sussex during the afternoon.
An Environment Agency spokeswoman said: "If the showers all fell at once it could be a problem but we anticipate they will be scattered throughout the course of the day.
"If it falls somewhere that's already saturated it could prove problematic."
