Two teams will represent Brighton and Hove in the regional final of a national five-a-side competition on Saturday.

Hove Park (boys) and Tideway, Newhaven (girls) won the Brighton & Hove area finals in the Wagon Wheels under-12s tournament, run by the English Schools Football Association.

They will compete in the South East region final at Woking on Saturday, aiming to reach the national final at Derby in the spring.

Both area tournaments were held at Moulsecoomb Leisure Centre.

Captain John Lansdale and Will Dennis both scored twice as Hove Park edged out Patcham 4-3 in the boys' final while two-goal Gemma Stevens fired Tideway to a 2-1 golden-goal win against Blatchington Mill, Hove, in the girls' final.

Mark Streeter, manager of Hove Park's boys and organiser of the event, said: "We were hoping to win because we're a strong team, but you never know until the day. It'll be harder at Woking and a good experience for all the lads."

Kelly Hunter, manager of Tideway's girls, said: "I knew we had quite a good little team but I didn't know what the other teams would be like.

"One of our best players, Gemma Stevens, will be ski-ing at the weekend, so it's going to be tougher."
