I nominate the late John Nathan-Turner, the producer of Doctor Who, for the Walk of Fame.

John lived in Saltdean from 1982 until his untimely death on May 1, 2002. He loved Brighton and on two occasions filmed Doctor Who there.

John did a lot of work raising money for local charities, putting on large shows at the Dome and Brighton Exhibition Centre as well as the Pavilion Theatre, including events sponsored by The Argus.

He produced, wrote and directed Cinderella at the Theatre Royal, starring Wendy Richards (from EastEnders), Colin Baker (Doctor Who), Carol Kaye and Hugh Lloyd, breaking all box-office records.

John wrote a weekly showbusiness article for The Argus and had his own show on BBC Southern Sound, called Glitz And Bits, with Hugh Lloyd's wife, Sian. This was a great success.

While producing Doctor Who, John gave many unknown actors from Brighton their first break. Many local stars and celebrities appeared in the programme, for example Judy Cornwall and Anna Wing. Lord Olivier expressed an interest in a cameo role if one became available. John made numerous personal appearances to raise money for charity, once again sponsored by The Argus.

On his death, every major newspaper carried a half-page obituary to him, including some in the US and Australia. He was made an honorary citizen of New Orleans and an honorary citizen of the US, endorsed by President Ronald Reagan.

John deserves to be included in the Walk of Fame because he was a great ambassador and promoter for Brighton and I sincerely hope he will be recognised by being given this honour.
