Rachel Wilmott has set her sights on the world junior championships this summer.
The 14-year-old from Horsham was third in the under-15s event at the British Open at Sheffield.
Her coach, Mike Harris, believes the British Closed champion can step up to under-19s for the global event in Cairo in August.
Harris said: "Rachel learned plenty from the Open and has already come on in leaps and bounds.
She is only 4ft.9in and was up against bigger girls in Sheffield so her shot-making had to be slightly sharper.
"From what I've seen in training she has improved enough for me to believe that she can earn a place in the world championships. She has got plenty of time to build up to it."
Meanwhile, Tom Pashley, 14, from Horsted Keynes, reached the last 16 of the boys' under-15s at the Open. The Dunnings Mill (East Grinstead) player is also coached by Harris.
Former national under-15s champion Jenna Gates, 16, from Henfield, made a winning return at the Essex Under-23 Open after nine months out with a spine problem.
She defeated Lauren Selby (Essex) 3-0 but failed to qualify from her group after losing by the same score to Carla Khan (Pakistan) and Kyla Griggs, the Canadian No.1.
Coach Harris: "It's just good that she's back on court."
