Parents angry at plans to move a popular primary school three miles away from their homes are being given another chance to air their views.
A public meeting has been organised by leaders of Heyworth Primary School, Haywards Heath, tomorrow at 7pm.
The event comes just days after more than 100 parents packed a town hall to vent their anger - during which West Sussex County Council was told to "go to hell and take your proposal with you".
Parents told Haywards Heath town councillors their community would be destroyed if Heyworth was moved to the walled confines of the new Bolnore Village.
Parent John Crawford, of New England Road, said: "Heyworth needs to be kept in the centre of Haywards Heath. There is a solid community of people who use the school.
"Most people walk their children to Heyworth and then also use the facilities in the centre.
"If we move the kids to the outskirts of town, Haywards Heath won't be there to live in any more."
Mr Crawford and other parents were responding to a proposal by the county council to move the school to Bolnore by 2005.
They said they were not just angry at the proposal but also that they had not been informed about the idea until last week.
They have until February 21 to file any objections.
In an unconventional move, Councillor Richard Goddard put the item on the town council meeting's agenda to start public debate on the subject.
Mr Goddard, who is also a member of Mid Sussex District Council, said he still had not been told about the proposal by the county council.
He said: "It is just simply not good enough for the county council to act in this way. It's our money they are playing with."
Urging parents to "keep up the momentum" and put pressure on the county council, he said: "The estates committee strongly condemns the proposal to move Heyworth from its site."
Councillor Paddy Henry said: "I don't know what planet the county council is on. I would say to the council, go to hell and take your proposal with you."
Mike Leigh, assistant director of education for the county council, said: "We have asked people for their views on the options and think it is very important they let us know by responding to the consultation document."
The county council is considering moving Heyworth as part of a shake-up of primary education in Haywards Heath.
Developers Crest Nicholson has agreed to set aside 1.4 hectares and pay almost £500,000 toward creating a new school to serve 1,000 new homes at Bolnore.
This could mean selling the Heyworth site, which could be used by the county council to fund the remaining £2 million cost of a new school.
