So, David Pyre (Letters, January 16) thinks it is a shame we cannot put up barriers to stupidity? So do I.

But then my family and those of the many others injured and killed on Madeira Drive, Brighton, wouldn't have had to endure his self-righteous attempt at one-upmanship.

He misses the whole point of the Madeira Drive campaign: Speed, the lack of effective restriction of speed and the enormously greater damage that collisions at more than 30mph cause.

I don't suppose the author of such a heartless letter can be a parent.

But, if he is, I hope he will never have to see his child suffering as my child did, whatever the cause.
