I am anxious to learn anything about a small factory in the heart of a residential area in Brighton, the Zylo Works Factory in Sussex Street near its junction with Queen's Park Road.
During the war, it undertook war work, making metal instructions for machinery as well as other similar and associated items.
The building had a flat roof on which were located two light machine guns, manned by two men who worked at the factory.
It was known by the Germans and almost destroyed in October 1940, when a bomb fell less than 50 yards away, in Egremont Place. Later during the war, bombs exploded much closer but the factory was never hit.
I would like to know what was actually made there during the war. Are there any people still about who worked in the factory at that time?
More importantly, are there any photographs taken of this building during the war years or immediately before?
This information is required for a new book about life in Brighton during the war years.
I would like to record any stories about the factory and its workers and would appreciate any information whatsoever.
