Sussex Police are monitoring the success of a scheme to name and shame criminals in Essex.
A convicted burglar and car thief will feature in a campaign to curb crime from next week.
Gary Ellis, 27, of Brentwood, Essex, will appear on posters in the town from Monday in the first scheme of its kind in England and Wales.
Essex Police hope the pictures of Ellis, who is serving a three-year jail sentence for vehicle crime and burglary, will help deter youngsters from getting involved in crime and reassure victims.
Other forces are watching with interest.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "Like all forces, we are interested in any schemes which bring results."
About 40 posters of Ellis will be seen at a number of locations, including railway stations and restaurants.
