Former Crawley boss Billy Smith has turned down the chance to manage Conference club Farnbrough.
Smith, who resigned at Broadfield Stadium a fortnight ago, was approached to take over from Graham Westley who has left the FA Cup giantkillers to join Stevenage.
Smith said: "I was offered the job, but there were complications which I'd rather not go into. It wasn't the right thing for me at this time."
Smith says he has had offers from several clubs since leaving Crawley, but after nearly 30 years he is unlikely to return to full-time management and may prefer instead to concentrate on scouting roles.
He added: "I've been linked with Tooting, Carshalton, Bishop's Stortford and now Farnbrough, but I'm still sitting at home keeping my options open."
Meanwhile, former Reds' striker Dave Stevens, who left the club earlier this week, is poised to link-up with promotion-chasing Ryman League club Bognor.
