A Worthing man will test himself physically and mentally by trekking to the summits of Mount Vesuvius, Stromboli and Etna in Italy to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.
Rick House, a 39-year-old graphics engineer from Westbourne Avenue, decided to take part in the Three Volcano Trek in memory of his father, who died from a heart attack last year.
Mr House says the trek, being held from May 8 to May 13, is the perfect opportunity to do something positive to help a worthy cause while also providing a challenging, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The trek will include visits to Pompeii, Ginostra and Sicily's best-known resort, Taormina.
There will also be the opportunity to watch, from the sea, Stromboli's spectacular explosions against the night sky.
Rick said: "Although I've done a fair bit of travelling in the past, I've never done anything like this for charity before.
"I'm really looking forward to taking in the wonderful scenery and making lots of new friends along the way.
"My younger sister has also been affected by heart disease so I probably know more than most just how important the work of the British Heart Foundation is and this is spurring me on in my fund-raising efforts.
"I have raised more than £950 already but still have quite a way to go so any help would be greatly appreciated."
