Local residents are being encouraged to visit Littlehampton Museum and comment on the display by the five shortlisted artists competing for the East Bank public art commission.
Arun District Council had a strong response to the commission, which was for a piece of art in the middle of a multimillion-pound development in the town's East Bank area.
A total of 83 submissions have been received, many of extremely high quality.
The five artists were shortlisted by the selection panel, made up of representatives from the district, county and town councils, Littlehampton Community School and the community.
Each artist has submitted a unique design proposal for the site and included ways of engaging the local community as an integral part of the commission.
John Stride, the district council's head of leisure services, who is leading this part of the East Bank Project, said: "It's going to be an extremely difficult decision.
"I would like to encourage local people to come and view the exhibition and make their comments."
John Singleton, chairman of Littlehampton Town Council's Community Resource Committee, said: "I am delighted the shortlisted designs for East Bank are on display in the museum.
"I do hope as many people as possible will come and see them so their comments can be taken into account when deciding which designs will be used."
The exhibition runs at the museum in Church Street until Saturday.
