Rico Alderson's record breaking performance for Brighton Bears has failed to rank him among the top ten British League players for January.
Alderson's omission from the five-man list of contenders for the BBL player of the month award caused uproar among fans of the British game.
Now the BBL have told The Argus Alderson was ranked only 12th in the country according to statistics used for establishing the shortlist.
Bears fans were delighted to see Wilbur Johnson and Sterling Davis make the list but felt Alderson was the club's leading contender.
In five league games during January, Davis scored 123 points, had 29 rebounds and ten assists while Johnson totalled 114, 48 and four.
Alderson's 91, 59 and 43 included a triple-double aginst Leicester which was described as the best in the BBL's history.
His triple against London Towers last week does not count as it came on February 1.
The league spokesman said: "It is not as simple as that. Our statisticians also take into account such things as shooting percentages, steals and turnovers in the formula."
Davis shot at 58.5 percent for two-pointers and hit eight of 23 threes while having eight turnovers.
Johnson was 41-of-68 from close in (60.3 per cent), hit five from nine outside the arc and had seven turnovers.
Alderson was 32-of-54 in two-point land (59.3 per cent) but missed 19 of his 22 three-pointers and piled up 23 turnovers.
What the numbers do not take into account is that Alderson started 2003 as public enemy No. 1, played in an unaccustomed position and ended the month being showered with praise from players and fans throughout the league.
Meanwhile, ex-Bears favourite Albert White piled up 32 points to help his CBA side Rockford Lightning win a 352-point overtime thriller.
Various records were broken on both sides as the American Conferecne leaders edged past hosts Idaho Stampede 152-150 in front of 2,315 amazed fans.
White shot at 53 per cent from the field and had 11 rebounds.
Lightning have won 22 of their first 34 games and had a strong representation in the CBA all-star game, in which White led the scoring with 28 points.
Rockford's No. 9 is averaging 23.6 points and 7.9 rebounds for the season, shooting at a shade under 50 per cent from the field.
