There is not a lot left of the Palace Pier from the days before the Noble Organisation took it over - just the toilets, a couple of small kiosks and some of the railings.
We seem to have lost the theatre for good (it is rumoured to be in Texas).
While we must be grateful the pier is not derelict, it is important we hang on to what is left of the traditional pier if it is to continue to deserve its listed status.
So we must insist the fire-damaged helter-skelter, whose silhouette is essential to the pier's profile, be restored.
