The Prime Minister is wrong to leave open the possibility of the involvement of British forces in a war in Iraq without a UN mandate.
Military action in Iraq must be a last resort and, even then, should be based on overwhelming evidence produced by UN weapons inspectors that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction, taken with a mandate from the UN Security Council and subject to a substantial vote in the House of Commons before British troops are committed to any action.
