I am massively saddened by the impending demise of The Quadrant.

This quirky, friendly establishment is an oasis of individuality in an increasingly bland city centre.

It amazes me that, in the Sixties and Seventies, many outrageous proposals were rejected that would have resulted in the demolition of large chunks of the city centre - including the thriving North Laine - yet now, Brighton and Hove City Council can get away with this blatant vandalism of historic buildings.

It appears whenever there is a quick profit to be made by a developer, all other considerations are forgotten.

Brighton and Hove was rightly excluded from the Capital of Culture contest.

A council so firmly set on destroying its heritage has no claim to such status.
