Police are stepping up patrols after a series of burglaries in two roads in Lancing and Worthing.

There were three burglaries and an attempted burglary in Brighton Road, Lancing, with the victims losing cash, a mobile phone and CDs.

A further three burglaries and an attempted burglary took place in Goring Road, Worthing, with the theft of jewellery, cash and a camera.

Residents living in Lancing streets reported thefts from their vehicles, with stereos taken from two cars in Westway, Boundary Road and a theft attempt in Brighton Road.

A police spokesman said: "We are concerned about these crime hotspots and will be stepping up patrols in these areas.

"We want all residents to be aware and secure their property as far as possible.

"Good lighting can deter a burglar and, as most burglaries happen when premises are empty, you should always try to look like you're in when you're out.

"Time switches are a good way of making it seem as though a house is occupied. They can be used to switch on lights, radios and other appliances.

"Also, keep your cars secure. Don't leave anything on display in your car, including CDs.

"Even an old coat on the back seat is a temptation for someone. Take all your belongings with you when you leave the car and, if this is not possible, lock them in your boot."
