A former home for retired missionaries, described as a place of peace in busy world, has undergone a £300,000 revamp.
Lomas House, a 20-room Edwardian property in Wordsworth Road, Worthing, now boasts en suite facilities, new heating, lighting and computer terminals, plus ramps and toilets for disabled people.
Five missionaries still live in the house, including centenarian Ian Jamieson and 97-year-old Rupert Bacon.
At the end of 2001, Lomas House was acquired by the Southern Synod of the United Reformed Church from the previous owners, the Council for World Mission.
It will continue to be a home for retired missionaries and other church workers and will remain a retreat centre for those who require a shorter time of peace for reflection and renewal.
The property, which employs 12 staff, will also function as a training and resource centre for churches in the South.
