Abolishing vehicle tax and putting tax on fuel (Voice of The Argus, February 10) would delight criminals.
Removing visual evidence of stolen or abandoned vehicles is not perfect but it is better than nothing.
The law on vehicle licensing has changed from February 1. One in five used cars is sold without its registration document (form V5, commonly known as the log-book).
To make it harder for thieves to disguise identities of stolen vehicles, the DVLA has changed the rules on applying for tax discs when the applicant does not have the licence renewal reminder (form V11).
To tax a vehicle if you have not received your reminder from the DVLA, you will need to present the logbook (or tear-off slip) with your application (form V10), without which you will no longer be able to apply for a tax disc at a post office.
All licence-plate dealers from January 1 have been required by law to register their details with the DVLA. This should reduce unwanted vehicles denying honest drivers their right to park.
