Eight out of ten young people suffer from stress, with adapting to working life, managing money and paying off debts the main causes.

More than a quarter of people in their 20s said working life made them stressed, while for 23 per cent the thought of saving and investing caused them to worry and nine per cent got stressed about their debts, according to research by Birmingham Midshires.

But only three per cent of young people were worried about losing their job and just two per cent were concerned about house prices.

Across all age groups, 21 per cent of people said they were stressed about work and 17 per cent were concerned about making savings and investment decisions.

Britons appeared to be relaxed about debt, with just six per cent claiming the amount of money they owed caused concern.
