A hit-and-run driver smashed into three parked cars in a Brighton street.

The suspect rammed into a Ford Ka, a Ford Fiesta and a Toyota Corolla in Miller's Road, shortly before 11pm last night.

Crews from Brighton fire station were called to the scene after residents reported hearing a bang and noticed leaking petrol.

The brigade called the police who began investigations.

Leading firefighter Mark Petty said: "It looks as though the driver has gone into one car and pushed the three together.

"It was quite a heavy impact - at least two of the cars were probably write-offs."

A Sussex Police spokesman said they had spoken to a resident who heard a loud bang but had not seen the driver in time.

The spokesman said: "We are keen to hear from residents who may have seen or heard anything in the area some time after 10.30pm, to help catch this driver."
