Detectives have traced a car they were looking for in connection with the murder of a self-made businessman.

The red Fiat Tempra was seen at the time Michael Willard was stabbed in the back in the yard of his scaffolding firm.

Mr Willard, 63, of Harley Shute Road, St Leonards, staggered back inside his office in Caves Road, St Leonards, where he dialled 999 on January 10.

However, he died within an hour of being taken to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings, prompting a murder inquiry.

Detectives believe the motive was robbery because about £1,000 in workers' wages was stolen.

The Fiat was spotted parked in Hastings.

Police are looking for a man wearing a checked shirt who was buying Stella Artois in Scott's Newsagents near Mr Willard's firm at around 4.30pm on January 10.

A £10,000 reward for information leading to conviction has been put forward by Sussex police.

Anyone with information should call the Operation Granary incident room on 0845 6070999 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
