A near-capacity audience at the Brighton Dome Concert Hall heard a magnificent performance on Sunday, February 9.
The Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Barry Wordsworth, played Nielsen's Helios Overture and Brahms's Symphony No 3 superbly.
In between these two works, Philip Fowke gave a heart-rendingly beautiful performance of Rachmaninov's 2nd Piano Concerto.
I sponsored this concert in memory of my late husband, Austin Brown, an orthopaedic consultant in Brighton for 30 years.
I was allowed to have the music we had chosen together when planning to do this.
It is through personal and corporate sponsorship that the Brighton and Hove Philharmonic Society is able to put on the excellent and popular season of Sunday concerts but it can also enable the orchestra to play works that perhaps need extra rehearsal time and have not been performed for some years.
My family, our many friends and I got so much pleasure from this concert, I hope more people will think of this as a way of supporting our city's orchestra.
