Roger Moore scored a hat-trick as Chichester beat local rivals Sidlesham 4-1 in County League division one.
Matt Smith was also on target for Chi but he was later sent off for a second bookable offence.
Scott Tipper hit Sidlesham's first half equaliser.
Chi assistant-boss Gary Brockway said: "We played very well. It was an important result for us before we were on the same points as them."
Victory lifted Chi into third place above Whitehawk who lost 1-0 at home to Arundel.
Steve Blake hit the only goal on 44 minutes.
Meanwhile, the match between Three Bridges and Redhill was postponed due to a frozen pitch along with Sidley's home fixture with Ringmer.
Haywards Heath's game with Storrington in division three was also a victim of the cold snap.
Withdean's Combined Counties League game with Chessington United was also off.
