I was very interested to read the comments of Josh Arghiros relating to his company's plans for the Endeavour site.
I have to say, amid all his declarations of artistic and cultural merit, I found it strange he made no mention of his real motivation behind this application - money.
Mr Arghiros is a property developer. He is in business to make money. He already has permission to build five storeys.
Now, if he could build to 16 storeys, each flat would be approximately three times the size. If he could increase the price of each flat by £100,000, he would stand to make a cool extra £7.4 million - not bad.
So, please, don't insult our intelligence by calling this a "mid-rise" building. Don't pretend, somehow, by building 16 storeys high, visible across the whole city, this would somehow enhance our quality of life.
Be honest - tell us you are a businessman attempting to squeeze as much cash out of this site as the council planners will let you. We might not like it but we may respect your honesty.
