Saltdean United shocked promotion-chasing Rye and Iden United with a 5-2 victory at the Salts in County League division two.
This was only Rye's second defeat in the league this season and it gives fourth-placed Saltdean hope in their bid to claim one of the three promotion places.
Tigers boss Paul Hubbard has consistently said his side are not good enough to catch the top three and that may still prove to be true but at least this result keeps the promotion race alive.
Hubbard said: "We caused them all sorts of problems. It was youth against experience.
"They are a very experienced side but we did ever so well. Rye will still be okay. Maybe they just had a bad day at the office."
The turning point was a penalty save by Saltdean keeper Ashley Walker when his side held a narrow 3-2 lead.
Lee Dray put Saltdean ahead early on but Rye hit back to lead at half time thanks to a Paul Clarke own goal and Steve Smith's strike.
Goals from Brad Dougal and Leigh Davis put Saltdean ahead by the hour mark. Rye should have got back into it when Ian South conceded a penalty but Walker saved from Smith and the visitors went on to score twice more through South and Davis.
