Worthing are off the top of London Two South and are now in danger of missing out on a play-off spot after losing 16-12 at home to Tunbridge Wells.
They were 16-0 down after 45 minutes but hit back with two Paul Cox tries and a Simon Swadling conversion.
There was plenty of pressure in the pursuit of a clinching score but Tunbridge Wells deserved their win.
The result means Tunbridge are now level on points with Worthing while fourt-placed Portsmouty trail by just two points.
