Sussex Police have come under fire for failing to visit victims of crime.
We have featured anguished - and justified - complaints that police have failed to provide the reassurance and support victims are entitled to respect.
Today, charity fund-raiser Marguerite Marsh is sure to feel devastated and dispirited after her home was burgled.
The thief made off with the diamond engagement and eternity rings given her by her late husband Dennis, as well as £30 she had raised to help cancer patients.
But in this instance, the police deserve credit.
Not only did they turn up to investigate the break-in, which should be expected, but they have also pledged to replace the stolen money.
PC Justin Burtenshaw revealed officers would sponsor Mrs Marsh in her walk for The Martlets Hospice this Saturday.
In an otherwise upsetting tale, the people of Sussex should feel some cheer to see our police force showing its generous, human face.
Good luck to Mrs Marsh in her charity walk. And let us hope the police also go the distance and catch the criminal who tried to ruin her good work.
