A mini-housing estate can be constructed near a police custody centre used to process villains, planners have ruled.
But a close look will be taken at possible problems caused by on-street parking in the road approaching the site earmarked for the scheme.
Worthing Homes Ltd wants to build 30 flats and houses, including three bungalows for wheelchair users, on land south of Hildon Close in Durrington.
The site is situated next to Centenary House, where the custody centre was recently opened.
Ten letters of objection were received by Worthing Borough Council, with on-street parking in Hildon Close identified as a major problem. Other people were concerned about the prospect of a council estate on their doorsteps and the destruction of wildlife.
But planners gave permission, arguing that the provision of low-cost housing outweighed any possible problems.
