Danny Sivers proved he is the quickest breaststroker in Sussex at the second County Championship meet at Crawley.
The Eastbourne swimmer won the 100m and 50m for men and boys.
Spokesman Brian Smith said: "Danny is the only Sussex swimmer competing who has swum below 1min.10sec, although one or two are getting close."
Sivers, 16, a pupil at Cavendish, set a personal best 1min.09.23sec in the 100m.
He said: "That pleased me because I was in bed with the flu two weeks earlier.
"I enjoy the breaststroke because I am good at it. Britain has a tradition in it, with guys like Adrian Moorhouse and David Wilkie.
"It's good to be the fastest in Sussex but I want to push on, make the nationals and compete for Britain."
Claire Manton, the Brighton international, returned after a flu bug to win the girls' 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 200m backstroke, plus the women's 200m backstroke.
Clubmate Amy Kent scored a hat-trick in the women's 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 400m individual medley.
Derrick Lee (Haywards Heath) and Ben McIvor claimed doubles.
Brighton freestyler Emma Eaves, 12, and sister Becky Eaves, nine, a breaststroke swimmer, won their 200m events.
