Regarding the proposed sewage works at Ovingdean, the Press talks of apathy of the electorate.
I wrote to 83 councillors some weeks ago concerning this proposal and have had no more than six replies. I call that apathy on the part of Brighton and Hove City Council.
Is it any wonder there is only a 28 per cent turnout for local elections?
On the subject of which, the only ones to oppose the sewage works have been Conservative councillors. Labour MP Des Turner favours Ovingdean as a suitable site.
I write again to reiterate my opposition to the very proposal of Ovingdean being considered suitable.
It is a greenfield site right by proposed National Park land and adjacent to residential properties.
What with now being denied access to our beach for the next two years because of rebuilding of sea defences (which, incidentally, were deliberately demolished some years ago), the people of Ovingdean could soon be developing a persecution complex.
Ironic, is it not, that as one of the largest concentrations of high council taxpayers in the area, we receive virtually no facilities from the council other than erratic bin collection and other basic services?
We even pay a commercial rent for our village hall, which we built ourselves.
Now, faced with a huge council tax hike, it's enough to make one jump in the sea - if only we had access.
