Matt Crabb believes he will play again this season and be involved in Eastbourne Borough's push for double glory.
Crabb damaged the medial ligament in his right knee during the 1-0 eastern division win at Dartford in midweek and has been told by doctors he could be out for up to six weeks.
Borough are pushing hard for promotion from the eastern division and are still involved in the Sussex Senior Cup.
Crabb, who plays in midfield, is desperate for a quick return as the season reaches a crucial point.
Crabb said: "I am hobbling around on crutches at the moment and have been told to rest my leg.
"I want to get back as quickly as possible as we have some important games coming up and are pushing for promotion.
"We also have the Sussex Senior Cup final (against Pagham) at the end of this month and I want to play my part in that.
"However, at the same time, I don't want to rush my comeback and add to the damage which has already been done."
Second-placed Borough are a point behind leaders Bashley with a game in hand but do not have a match tomorrow, a situation which angers coach Nick Greenwood.
He said: "It is ridiculous.
"We are two or three games behind everyone else and we have a Saturday off.
"We now have to travel to places like Dorchester in midweek which does not help us."
