I read with much annoyance the article stating that Brighton and Hove City Council was setting aside a certain amount of money for recycling as well as erecting an incinerator in Newhaven (The Argus, March 7).
Councillors seem to think the site for this incinerator is a foregone conclusion. May I remind them the people of Newhaven and surrounding areas are not prepared to take Brighton and Hove's rubbish. A public inquiry is to take place and the road network around our area will not support extra and unnecessary traffic.
What is wrong with the area behind Hove Lagoon? The power station is nearby and it seems a perfect place to erect the incinerator because there would be no traffic problems and there is a lack of
residential housing.
So, Brighton and Hove, keep your rubbish - and your sewage, come to that - and
let us continue regenerating Newhaven.
