A woman has called for compensation after her 80-year-old mother tripped and injured herself in a damaged bus shelter.
Freda Mainwaring, of Hartington Road, Brighton, fell over the stump left after a sheet of plastic was pulled from a shelter in Blatchington Road, Hove.
Her daughter Averil Older has called on Brighton and Hove City Council to compensate her mother. She said the council had neglected the shelter.
Mrs Older, 57, said: "The accident happened only a couple of weeks after her 80th birthday.
"She had booked a holiday in Italy, the first time she had been abroad for years, and it was ruined because she could hardly get off the bus.
"At one point she couldn't even comb her hair and she is a very fit woman.
"But I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the same thing had happened on the other side of the shelter and nothing had been done to fix it."
Mrs Older said she was worried about the safety of other shoppers.
She said she hoped to get enough money from the council to treat her mother to another holiday.
A spokeswoman for Brighton and Hove City Council said its insurers were gathering medical evidence and advice and were looking at making a settlement.
She said: "We endeavour to make sure all shelters are in good repair. All the bus shelters along Blatchington Road are soon to be replaced."
