Bognor boss Jack Pearce was delighted with the points after Rocks maintained their promotion challenge in Division One South with a 3-1 home win over Egham.
Pearce said: "Winning counts at this stage of the season and sometimes you have to accept that the performances may not be what you would like them to be."
Rocks played into the teeth of a strong wind in the first half and there was little incident until the 41st minute when Steve Sargent was brought down in the box by Gary Duffy and Michael Birmingham blasted the penalty past Stuart Walton.
Bognor warmed to their task in the second half and Russell twice went close before doubling their lead on 68 minutes when David Birmingham's cross was headed home by the returning Paul Thomas.
The points were secured in the 86th minute when Lee Stevens latched onto a defensive error and calmly slotted the ball into the far corner.
Matt Edwards got a consolation against his old club a minute later when he bundled home Micky Stewart's cross.
