Wasteful Crawley threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with mid-table Moor Green in the Premier Division.
Defensive frailties proved costly for Reds as leftback Ian Payne acknowledged afterwards.
He said: "Two mistakes have cost us. We defended well enough but we're disappointed to have drawn because we've made mistakes. Teams will always get chances if they're losing, especially if we make mistakes like we did."
Francis Vines was able to welcome back Stewart Holmes, Peter Fear, Mo Harkin, Danny Hockton and Nigel Brake from the team that won at Tiverton in midweek and Crawley got off to a dream start after seven minutes when Warren Bagnall's right-wing cross was superbly volleyed by Danny Hockton past Adam Rachel.
Five minutes later, Reds doubled their lead when Brake burst past a defender and beat Rachel to the ball before rifling in the second.
Mo Harkin and Brake went close to adding to the tally before the break, but Crawley lost Harkin to a recurrence of a hamstring injury and they badly missed his influence in the second half.
Moors were awarded a 62nd minute penalty after Brake was penalised for a trip on substitute Peter Faulds and Nathan Lamey converted from the spot.
Two minutes later, the visitors were gifted an equaliser when Ernie Cooksey was caught in possession and Craig Woodley set up Lamey who fired past a stranded Andy Little.
Hockton had two chances to secure a win late on but had a header easily saved by Rachel and then saw the ball deflected off him and over the bar following a goalmouth scramble.
