The fact Daniel Bedingfield was spotted shopping in Argos on Western Road, Brighton, speaks volumes for his pop star persona.
More bloke-next-door than rugged rock star, Daniel is the sort of chap all mums love.
Live, this cuddly-bloke charm was hard to fault but wasn't exactly what you would expect from a pop star.
Daniel didn't toy with his fans' emotions - he handed them his heart and soul on a plate. There was no cool strutting or stylised posing.
From the minute the music started, Daniel was moving-and-a-grooving like there was no tomorrow.
Quite a chunky lad, he sweated profusely and his light grey top became dark and clingy within minutes.
A little heavy on his feet, he stomped around enthusiastically, occasionally slipping on the moist stage and colliding with monitors.
It's well known he wrote his first hit, Gotta Get Thru This, in his bedroom and you couldn't help but feel his dance moves were created there, too.
It was not hard to picture that his microphone was once a hairbrush and the audience was once his bathroom mirror.
It was not the moody, sexy pop chic we are used to but, in an odd way, it was refreshing and strangely charming.
It certainly struck a chord with the audience who spent the entire concert on the brink of hysteria.
Teenage girls flanked the stage grabbing any limbs that passed. They screamed, yelled "marry me Daniel" and ruffled the air with home-made banners.
At one point, Daniel borrowed a flag and wore it as a cape. He also leapt off stage puffed up and down the aisles and, at one point, sprinted madly round the concert hall before jumping back on stage.
It wasn't just teenagers who were whipped into a frenzy. A fair few parents were there for the ride, enjoying it as much as the kids.
During his hour-long set, we heard all his hits including James Dean and If You're Not The One.
Although soggy and exhausted, Daniel managed an incredible encore. He sang Gotta Get Thru This in a reggae style, making it sound better than the original, then sang it again to the tune of Michael Jackson's Billy Jean.
There's no doubting Daniel has an incredible voice and an innocent charm but whether he has pop star credentials remains to be seen.
