Customs officers seized more than 1.1 million cigarettes in a lorry when it arrived in a ferry port.
The tobacco was found hidden inside fabricated doors on the lorry when it arrived at Newhaven from Dieppe.
A Portuguese lorry driver was arrested at the port on Friday and later released on police bail pending further inquiries.
Officers said the Superking cigarettes had an estimated revenue evasion figure of about £200,000.
It was the second mass seizure within weeks at Newhaven. Earlier this month, Customs seized 2.5 million contraband cigarettes.
During that incident, the vehicle was stopped in a routine inspection by officials as it left a ferry from Dieppe.
The cigarettes were hidden in a legitimate cargo, heading for the north of England.
