A skateboard park is to be opened after strong support from youngsters in Sompting.
Teenagers worked hard to turn plans for the facility into a reality, even holding a breakdancing event so they could afford to have their skateboarding group logo emblazoned on the ramps.
The skatepark, consisting of pipes, ramps and grinds, will open in Hamble recreation ground, Sompting, on April 5 at 10am.
Adur District Council financed the park, with extra money coming from Sompting Parish Council. More help came from sponsors Eibe and Animal, who have designed and installed it.
Young skaters worked with the project team from the start and were allowed to influence the designers.
The skateboarding group, Every Skater Lives (ELS), will be showing off some of their tricks at the opening.
Member Sam Parker-Harding, 13, said: "This is what I have been waiting for ever since I started skating. I am well happy."
Sompting resident Mel Shaw has been involved with the park from the beginning.
She said: "Everyone has worked really hard to achieve something good for the teenagers. They are all really excited and pleased to have somewhere to call their own, skate and hang out with their mates."
Adur's community services chairman Paul Graysmark said: "This is great news for youngsters and so good to see them getting involved with a community project.
"They said they wanted a skatepark. We listened and consulted and the idea has become a reality."
