Two men were remanded in custody today, charged in connection with a £1 million raid at Gatwick airport.
Armed police took up positions at the West Sussex airport during the early hours of yesterday and two men were arrested and taken to Harrow Police Station in North London for questioning.
Ian Burr, 35, of Aylesbury Drive, Basildon, Essex, and Gary Mullen, 35, of Sudbury, London, are accused of robbery from HSBC of £1,123,639 in euros and dollars.
They spoke only to confirm their names during a brief hearing at Bow Street Magistrates' Court in London.
Flying Squad officers from the Metropolitan force swooped at 3.10am yesterday, supported by Gatwick's armed police.
A Gatwick spokesman said: "The operation took place outside our inner security perimeter so there was no breach of airport security.
"We were informed an operation was going to take place."
The currency had been flown into Gatwick the night before.
