Lewes held on to third spot in division one south with a 1-0 win at Leatherhead to stay four points behind the leaders with a game in hand.
Rooks settled first and home goalkeeper Justin Gray produced a fingertip save to turn a fine strike by Paul Kennett on to the bar in the 11th minute.
Five minutes later John Pomroy, signed from Chertsey before the game, should have given Lewes the lead.
Good work by Danny Davis presented him with a free header at the far post but with the goal gaping he nodded his effort wide.
Further chances were squandered before Lewes finally broke through on the stroke of half time when a low free kick fron Davis crept in at the far post.
The Rooks defence kept Leatherhead restricted to long range shots throughout the game, the best efforts coming from Alex Inglethorpe and Phil Ruggles.
Lewes kept creating chances in the second half but, as has been the case recently, they failed to hit the target.
Two exceptions were strikes from Lee Newman and Pomroy on 65 and 69 minutes which forced Gray to produce excellent saves.
