A cone amnesty is being held in Eastbourne because of a shortage for this summer's Airbourne air show.
So many of the plastic orange cones have vanished that organisers have been left short for August's event.
They are used to help traffic flow during the four-day spectacular, which draws thousands into the town and bolsters the economy by millions.
Council bosses have asked people to search their gardens, garages and homes. And they promise no action will be taken against anyone who comes forward before June and leaves them in College Road.
Ron Cussons, director of tourism at Eastbourne Borough Council, said: "While I don't find orange cones particularly attractive, clearly some people do and are taking them home.
"We need them back.
"Sussex Police have proved amnesties do get members of the public to hand over items of a certain nature and we would love our cones back before Airbourne."
