Cannabis campaigners were on the streets of Worthing today before a court appearance by three men facing drugs charges.
Waving banners urging the legalisation of cannabis, the protesters, including a Druid in full ceremonial dress, were delivering a petition backing Dutch-style coffee shops to Worthing Town Hall.
Chris Baldwin, 52, of Carnegie Close, Worthing, who ran the Quantum Leaf cafe and adjoining Bongchuffa shop in Rowlands Road, Worthing, was appearing before magistrates with former employees Mark Benson and Adrian Allday.
Baldwin is charged with possessing and supplying cannabis and allowing premises to be used for the smoking of cannabis.
At a previous court hearing, Benson, 37, of Irene Avenue, Lancing, and Allday, 37, of Leconfield Road, Lancing, denied permitting premises to be used for smoking cannabis and Benson denied supplying cannabis.
Activist Sarah Chalk, who was outside Worthing law courts in Christchurch Road, said: "It's on-going but we have about 400 signatures on our petition."
The new West Sussex Youth Cabinet was discussing today whether recreational use of cannabis should be legal.
