The head of energy regulator Ofgem has been appointed as the new chairman of City watchdog the Financial Services Authority (FSA).
Callum McCarthy will take over one of the most influential roles in the City in September when chairman Sir Howard Davies leaves.
Chancellor Gordon Brown said: "Callum McCarthy brings to the FSA an unrivalled combination of experience in the public sector, the financial services industry and as chairman of a highly successful regulator."
