I notice in these columns an increasing number of letters from councillors and prospective councillors of the usual mud-slinging "yes you did, no I didn't" playground variety.
I can only conclude an election must be in the offing. May I therefore make the following suggestion to the electorate?
When you vote, vote for the candidate you think will do the best job for your city.
Do not vote for someone because you have always voted for that party, do not vote for someone because you would never vote for their party and do not vote for a candidate because you agree or disagree with what the Government is up to. Ideally, of course, vote for an independent candidate.
I know this is a radical proposal but, trust me, you can do it.
Who knows, you could get a much better council out of it.
