Hastings rider Peter Tadros took on some of the top London and Surrey riders and finished runner-up in the Redmon CC time trial in the Horsham area.
Due to roadworks, the course distance had to be increased to 26 miles, a mile longer than scheduled.
Tadros (Interbike) recorded 57min but Paul Mill (Team Edwardes), who started 20 minutes earlier, had already clocked 56min.31sec.
Leon Wright (Sigma), the last man to start in the field of 100, finished third in 57min.14sec.
Fourth place was taken by Keith Reed (34th Nomads) in 57min.50sec. Read, a former London rider, now lives in Southwater which is adjacent to the popular course.
Brighton rider Mike Coyle (VC Etoile), placed eighth in 59min.27sec and won the prize for the fastest veteran.
Louise Denton, of Eastbourne Rovers, won the women's event in 1hr.13min.53sec.
Lisa Griffiths and Helen Carter (Eastbourne Rovers) won the A3 Club women's two-up time trial in Hampshire.
They covered the 25 miles in 1hr.3min.59sec. Second fastest were the Sussex composite team of Niki Treacy (GS Stella) and Susan Uncles (Worthing Excelsior) in 1hr.7min. 32sec.
The men's three-up race, was won by Hampshire team VC St Raphael in 51min. 42sec.
The GS Stella team of Andy Payne, Phil Wise and Steve Woodbridge finished second in 55min.53sec. GS Stella pair John Limpus and Steve Geran were third in the two-up race in 54min. 36sec.
Mark Winton (Lewes Wanderers) has taken the overall lead in the South East Road Race League after finishing third in round two. Clubmate Jim Cheek finished fifth recently in the Surrey League's road race at Dunsfold.
Storrington's Mark Jones (GS Stella) finished eighth in the 60-mile Lewes Wanderers road race in Ashdown Forest. The winner was Essex rider Sean Kilroy (Glendene CC).
Thirty-three local teams have entered the East Sussex CA's 23-mile two-up time trial at Laughton on Sunday (9am). The teams include Limpus and Geran, Simon and Chris McNamara (VC Etoile) and East Grinstead's Steve Dennis and Mark Bashf
