Sussex had a long cold day in the field as Worcestershire made steady progress in making 342-6 in the one-innings friendly at Hove.
The teams did their best to make this a genuine warm-up and Stephen Peters, Ben Smith, Vikram Solanki and David Leatherdale all compiled half-centuries for the visitors.
Worcestershire faced 85 overs and, although 45 minutes were lost to a light shower in the morning, it seemed likely that they would declare leaving Sussex to chase.
Anurag Singh (31) and Peters (55) set the tone by sharing an opening stand of 62.
Kevin Innes broke through by having Singh caught at midwicket and Robin Martin-Jenkins had Graeme Hick held at the wicket for 17.
Martin-Jenkins, who finished the day with 3-69 from 15 overs, ended Peters' 105-ball vigil as the former Essex man edged a slip catch to skipper Chris Adams after compiling seven fours and a six.
Worcestershire captain Smith quickly got into his stride and he and Solanki added 95 for the fourth wicket before Smith was caught at slip off James Kirtley, having struck 76 with 14 fours off 89 balls.
Spinners Mushtaq Ahmed (0-49) and Mark Davis (1-71) both got through 16 overs and Davis's only wicket came when Solanki was caught behind by substitute wicket-keeper Andrew Hodd, having powered a dozen fours and a six in making 74 off 93 balls. Martin-Jenkins then trapped Kadeer Ali.
