Paul Brooker is seeing double in a bid to help Albion beat the drop from Division One. The former Fulham winger wants to start hitting ten goals a season.

Brooker took his tally this term to a career-best six at Reading recently, putting him behind only Bobby Zamora in the Seagulls' scoring chart.

He managed just seven in total in Albion's consecutive title triumphs over the past two seasons but he still thinks he is below-par.

"I love scoring," Brooker said. "I wish I could score a few more. I should, so long may it continue.

"When I was at Fulham Ian Branfoot said a good winger should get between ten and 15 goals a season.

"I'm not there yet, but I think I should be hitting at least ten with the amount of chances I get.

"I've got to get my finishing boots on. Sometimes I leave them at home.

"It would be nice if I could get to double figures, but don't hold your breath!"

Brooker has been on target in three of the last five home games including the winner against Nottingham Forest from a quickly taken free-kick by Zamora, a tactic the pair repeated at Reading.

The slightly built 26-year-old, operating successfully as a free spirit, also headed off his own line against Reading.

"I don't win many headers or tackles," he admitted. "I think on that occasion it hit me rather than me heading it.

"Defending is obviously not the strongest part of my game, but I am enjoying the position. It's a free role, but I have to get back in midfield and help out when I can."

Albion dropped back into the relegation zone in midweek when Stoke beat Rotherham, but boss Steve Coppell is focusing on his own side.

"It's most important not to start looking at what other people are doing, asking other teams to do us favours," he said.

"Inevitably if you do that you lose concentration on what you are doing and we need 100 per cent focus.

"Last year 49 points went down. I think you are going to need very close to that kind of level to stay in the division."
