We have recently taken daily delivery of The Argus after our move from Hertfordshire and we are intrigued by your conflicting headlines.
Firstly, there was "Council taxes set to rocket" (February 4) due to massive reductions in grant funds to both councils and police.
This being a reallocation arrangement to deprive non-government supporters in the South and encourage the Government's supporters in the North.
An arrangement that seems very sensible I suppose from the Government's point of view but looks like ballot rigging.
Secondly, we have "Minister's curb on tax shocks" (The Argus, March 26) to restrict council's imposing inflation busting rises.
Furthermore, councils are benefiting from an increase of funding of 5.9 per cent this year.
Have we moved to Disneyland?
My impression was council tax increases, including cover of funds taken away from the police, were the result of this Government that is now blaming the councils for trying to protect services such as maintaining our police force.
The old adage that you can only tell if a politician is lying when his lips are moving still seems to be true.
