Kevin Innes fired 159 as Sussex piled up 433-8 before declaring in their one-innings friendly against Somerset.

Innes amassed 16 fours and eight sixes and two of his sixes at the expense of spinner Arul Suppiah, smashed a car windscreen and broke a tile high on the pavilion roof.

Innes' first 29 runs came off 50 balls, but he then accelerated to score his next 130 runs off only 122 deliveries before being run out.

James Kirtley also enjoyed himself to hit a rapid 69 not out and trialist Ashley Wright, the former Leicestershire batsman, struck 66 opening the innings.

Wright shared in a first wicket stand of 107 with Michael Yardy, who reached 33 before being stumped off spinner Keith Dutch.

Dutch finished with 3-89 off 25 overs and medium-pacer Keith Parsons (2-56) claimed his first wicket by having Wright well caught at slip by Piran Holloway.

Bas Zuiderent fell for a duck when Dutch had him caught at mid off before Innes dominated a fifth wicket stand of 98 with Neil Turk (28).

Sussex lost Turk to Parsons, who also had Andrew Hodd taken at first slip for only seven.

But Kirtley ensured the innings ended with a flourish by hammering 13 fours off only 72 balls.
