Once again, readers of The Argus have displayed their generosity.
Thanks to the success of our Christmas Grotto 2002, The Argus Appeal has been able to donate £16,000 to help fund the Royal Sussex County Hospital's new renal unit.
The Government has agreed to pay the building costs but the hospital must find £1.25 million for the necessary equipment.
While appeal workers are proud to help, it is a shame hospitals have to rely on the kindness of others to finance such vital equipment, including an ECG machine and oximeter.
We can afford to spend millions on military action yet cannot find the cash to provide lifesaving hospital equipment.
